239 more Bangladeshi expats return home from Sudan
Some 239 more Bangladeshi expatriates came back home from war-torn Sudan via Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Friday morning.
A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 9 am.
With this, a total of 555 Bangladeshi nationals, including women, children and sick expatriates, evacuated from Sudan returned home in five phases, sources in the airport said.
The Bangladeshis were first taken to Port Sudan from Sudan's capital Khartoum, and from there, sent to Jeddah where Bangladesh Embassy arranged accommodation for them.
The World Health Organization said at least 600 people were killed and more than 5,000 injured in the fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) but that real numbers are likely much higher, Reuters reported.
Many have fled Khartoum and Darfur, uprooting 700,000 people inside the country and sending 150,000 as refugees into neighbouring states, quoting UN figures, Reuters said.
