Housemaid, lover get death in woman, son murder

A court in Sylhet has sentenced a domestic help and her so-called lover for killing a woman and her son.

The condemned convicts are Tania, 24, and her lover Mamun, 29.

Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Court Judge Nure Alam Bhuiyan handed down the verdict on Thursday.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each and in default, they will have to serve another year in jail.

Lawyer for prosecution Zobair Bakht Zuber confirmed the matter.

The case statement said Rokeya Begum, a resident of Mirabazar area in Sylhet city and her son Rabiul Islam, were murdered by their housemaid Tania and her lover Mamun in 2018.

According to the statement, they were first made unconscious by giving them sedatives and were, later, hacked to death. On the following day, police recovered the bodies.

The Brother of the murdered woman Zakir Hossain filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against four unknown people in this connection.

Lawyer for plaintiff Misbaur Rahman Alam said Tania killed Rokeya over a conflict with her on different matters.
