65-day fishing ban at sea to begin from May 20
The government has imposed a 65-day ban on fishing at sea to ensure smooth breeding of fish.
The fishing ban will remain in effect from midnight on May 20 till July 23.
Md Iftekhar Hossain, Public Relations Officer of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, confirmed the matter on Thursday.
During the period, netting using any fishing boat, mechanical or other vessel will be completely banned, the officer said.
The ministry will implement the fishing ban in coastal divisions and districts across the country.
The government will give food assistance to the registered fishers through VGF (vulnerable group feeding) programme during the ban.
