All set to face cyclone Mocha: Enamur
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on Wednesday said the government is prepared at all levels to deal with the possible Cyclone Mocha or Mokha, reports BSS.
"We have allocated Taka 20 lakh for shelter management in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. We will be able to tackle the cyclone successfully like every time and the government is fully prepared to this end," he said.
He told journalists at the beginning of the inter-ministerial coordination committee meeting in the conference room of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the secretariat in Dhaka.
Stating that the government is taking steps as per Standing Orders on Disaster (SOD) to deal with the damage, the state minister said, "I spoke to the field level officials as per the forecast".
"I talked to the Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar and Chattogram and the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner. The Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP) has been directed to disseminate early warning in this regard," he added.
He said that all the shelters in coastal areas including Chattogram and Cox's Bazar have been asked to remain prepared.
Upazila shelter preparation has been completed, he said, adding that 14 tons of dry food has been sent there.
About 200 tons of rice will be sent by tomorrow, he continued.
He said that the Armed Forces Division (AFD) has been cooperating with transport facilities for people's movement.
"Police will assist people to get to the shelters. Army, Navy, BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard will also be standing by for any kind of assistance.
He hoped that the government would bring the damage and loss of property to zero level by implementation of these steps.
Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain and Secretary for Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Kamrul Hasan were present, among others, on the occasion.
