Five get death in Habiganj murder

A court in Habiganj has sentenced five people to death and awarded two others life-term imprisonment in a murder case in Habiganj.

The condemned convicts are Bhingraz Mia, Sizil Mia, Fazal Mia, Zitu Mia and Shah Alam while the lifers are Yunus Mia and Abdullah Mia.

First Additional District and Session Judge Court Judge Md Azizul Haque handed down the verdict on Tuesday. The court also acquitted 19 accused from charges.

Plaintiff's lawyer Md Nuruzzaman said Shah Alam along with his cohorts attacked the victim, Tota Mia, at Dighalbak village in Sadar upazila on August 1 of 2014 over a dispute, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

On August 2 of the same year, the victim's son Abdul Kayum filed a case against 32 people in this connection.
