Arav Khan jailed for 10 years in arms case
A court in Dhaka has sentenced notorious Dubai-based gold trader Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan to 10 years in jail in an arms case.
Dhaka Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Murshid Ahammad passed the order on Tuesday.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, of which he will have to serve three more months in jail.
Earlier on Sunday, the court set May 9 for pronouncing judgment as both prosecution and defence concluded their arguments in the case.
Ten witnesses out of total 20 were examined in the case.

Arav, a fugitive accused in the murder case of a police inspector, was arrested in Maghbazar on January 28, 2015, with a loaded revolver as he allegedly went there to threat his father-in-law Sekendar Ali to extort money from him.
Police later filed the case against him with the capital’s Ramna Police Station.
The investigation officer of the case and detective branch (DB) of police sub-inspector Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mostafa Sarwar on March 1, 2015, filed formal charge against him. On May 10, 2015, the court framed charges against Arav, but he managed to come out of jail after securing bail on March 14, 2018, in the case.
The court on October 24, 2018, issued arrest warrant against Arav.
On March 23 this year, the International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as Interpol, issued a red notice against Arav Khan in line with Bangladesh’s request.
