Appellate Division upholds Mamunul Haque's bail in 2 cases

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld a High Court order granting bail to former Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Mawlana Mamunul Haque in two separate cases.

Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice M Enayetur Rahim on Sunday passed the order in the two cases filed over the clashes centering Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit in 2013 and 2021.

Earlier on May 3, the High Court gave Mamunul Haque bail in five cases filed with Dhaka’s Paltan and Chattogram’s Hathazari police stations over the clashes centering the Indian premier's Bangladesh visit.

On April 18, 2021, a joint team of Tejgaon division police and DMP’s Detective Branch arrested Mamunul from Jamia Rahmania Arabia madrasa in Mohammadpur.

The following day, he was shown arrested in a case filed on March 7 of 2020 over vandalism by activists of the Qawmi madrasa-based organization in Mohammadpur. 

He was also shown arrested in 16 other cases filed with Paltan, Motijheel and Narayanganj’s Sonargaon police stations.
