6 get death penalty for killing teacher in Cumilla

A court in Cumilla has sentenced six people to death in a case filed for the murder of teacher Jahidul Azam Sujon.

Judge Jahangir Hossain of Cumilla Additional District and Session Judge Fifth Court passed the order at 11am on Tuesday. 

The death-row convicts are Md Jamal, Md Ilias, Jakir Hossain, Md Nayan, Kamal and Mithun. Of them, Nayan, Kamal and Mithun are absconding. 

The court also acquitted two people in the case.

The state lawyer Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to Jago News.

He said Jahidul was hacked to death at Barpara area in Cumilla on August 10, 2010. On the next day, his father filed a case against 11 people with Kotwali Model Police Station. Police submitted a charge sheet against 9 to the court after completing investigation into the case. Later, one of accused died during trial proceedings.
