Gazipur city polls: Jahangir's nomination canceled

The nomination paper submitted by independent mayor candidate Jahangir Alam to contest Gazipur City Corporation elections has been canceled.

Returning officer Md Faridul Islam scrapped it after scrutinization of the mayor candidates' nominations at Bangataj Auditorium in the city on Sunday morning.

Faridul said his nomination paper was rejected as he was found as a loan defaulter in the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) report of Bangladesh Bank.

In this regard, Jahangir Alam told the media that the loan for which the nomination was canceled has been repaid and bank officials also informed the election officer about the loan repayment.

However, the nomination paper of his mother Zayeda Khatun, who is also a candidate in the polls, was declared valid.
