1 killed, 4 injured in explosion at Patuakhali ice mill

A youth was killed and four others were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at an ice mill in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali on Tuesday night.

The incident took place around 11:30pm at Khan Barafkal in Kalaiya Launchghat area.

The deceased was identified as Md Rasel, 35, brother-in-law of the ice mill owner Farid Molla.

The injured are Premananda Das, 55, Krishna Rani, 40, Ibrahim, 29 and Afzal, 50. They are inhabitants of different unions in Baufal upazila. 

Police and local sources said the gas cylinder exploded when the ice mill workers turned on the machine. Later, local people recovered the injured people and took them to Baufal Upazila Health Complex where Rasel was declared dead by the doctor.

A T M Anisul Haque, Officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station, said they are looking into the matter.
