Bangladesh embassy in Sudan, ambassador’s residence attacked

Bangladesh embassy in Sudan came under attack on April 22 during the fight between military and paramilitary forces in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The Bangladesh embassy building was attacked by machine gun bullets.

Earlier on April 15, bullets from machine guns hit the residence of acting ambassador Tareq Ahmed. 

No one was injured or killed in both attacks.

Tareq Ahmed is now staying at Madani city in Al Jazirah state of east-central Sudan as the situation in Khartoum worsens, it is learnt. 

However, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam in a Facebook post said the government has decided to evacuate Bangladeshi nationals from Sudan through other countries.

On Tuesday, the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire after negotiations mediated by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.

Air strikes and artillery killed at least 459 people, wounded over 4,000, destroyed hospitals and limited food distribution in a nation where a third of its 46 million people rely on food aid.
