Nation observes Bangabandhu`s Homecoming Day

Today is the historic Homecoming Day of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The nation observes the day with daylong programs.

On this day in 1972, after nine and a half months of captivity in Pakistan jail, Bangabandhu returned in the independent Bangladesh.
Bangabandhu had arrived at Tejgaon Airport from New Delhi by a British Airforce flight at 1:41pm on January 10 amongst the cheering crowd of millions of countrymen.

The National four Leaders, Bangabandhu’s four close associates, who successfully led the War of Liberation in his absence, received him in on his arrival at the airport.

An open truck carried Bangabandhu to the then Race Course ground, now Suhrawardy Udyan parting millions of people standing at both sides of the road to have a glimpse of the architect of the newly independent nation.
Bangabandgu addressed a mammoth rally of more than a million people at the Race Cource ground.

Pakistan army arrested Bangabandhu from his Dhanmondi residence during the late-night on March 26 in 1971 at his historic residence on Dhanmondi-32 after the crackdown by the Pakistani junta and heinous killing of nation’s intellectuals on 25th night.

The Pakistan junta later sent Bangabandhu to Pakistan and imprisoned him.
After the nation achieved its victory over Pakistan on December 16, 1971 through a nine-month liberation war, on this very day, Pakistani junta  compelled to free Bangabandhu and he finally returned home.
