BGB market fire under control

The fire, which broke out at BGB market in the capital’s Uttara on Monday morning, has been brought under control. 

The fire originated at the market at 10:25am and was brought under control 11:10am. 

Lima Khanom, Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said being informed three firefighting units rushed to spot and started to bring the fire under control. Later, two more units joined them.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, she said.

Earlier on Saturday, a massive fire broke out at the south building of New Super Market in the capital’s New Market area and gutted 200 shops. A total of 30 people, including one air force sergeant, three fire service officers, 21 firefighters, two volunteers, two Ansar members and one scout were injured while extinguishing the fire.

On April 4, a devastating fire broke out at Bangabazar market and gutted 4,000-5,000 shops.
