2 drivers killed as bus, pickup van collide in Dinajpur

Two drivers were killed and twelve others injured when a bus collided with a pickup van in Dinajpur on Sunday morning.

The accident took place on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Birampur upazila around 7am. 

The deceased were identified as bus driver Golam Rabbani, 38 and pickup driver Azad Hossain.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. They were admitted to Birampur Upazila Health Complex and Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.

Quoting locals, police said a Dinajpur-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan collided head-on with a Gobindaganj-bound pickup van in the area, leaving two drivers dead on the spot and 12 others injured. 

Mominul Islam, Inspector (investigation) of Birampur Police Station, said bodies of the deceased were recovered from the spot. The injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

However, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner visited the injured people at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.  At that time, he announced Tk 25,000 to each bereaved family for the funeral while Tk 10,000 to each family of the injured.
