Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury to be buried in Savar

Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury will be buried in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka on Friday.

His son Barish Chowdhury said this on Thursday before his namaz-e-janaza at Shaheed Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Barish said his father wanted to donate his body for medical science and they tried to fulfill his will

But now they decided to bury him at Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Savar as doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he studied, and Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital which he founded refused to use knife in his boy from respect and love, he added.

Earlier around 10 am, his body was taken to Central Shaheed Minam where people from all walks of life paid their respect to him.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, 81, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi in the capital.

He had long been suffering from kidney disease. He was admitted to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi of capital Dhaka on April 5 after he had fallen ill critically.
