A commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was killed in an alleged shootout with Armed Police Battalion (APBn) members in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.

Deceased Abdul Majid Lalaiya, 34, was a resident of Taznimar Khola of Block-E/3 of Ukhiya Rohingya camp-13 and was accused in four murder cases.

The incident took place in Ghonarpara area of Block-A/8 of Camp-19 from this morning to afternoon, said APBn assistant superintendent (operation and media) Faruk Ahmed.

Sources in APBn said being informed that the terrorists took position in a few houses beside the home of Amin Majhi of Block-A/8 of Camp-9, a team of 20-25 police members cordonned off the area around 9:30 am.

Sensing the presence of the cops, 40-50 armed people opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.

Later, police recovered one body, rescued three others and seized firearms and two rounds of bullets from the scene.
