‘5-6 thousand shops gutted in Bangabazar fire’
Some 5,000 to 6,000 shops of six markets were gutted in a massive fire in the capital’s Bangabazar on Tuesday.
Jahirul Islam, General Secretary of Bangabazar Shop Owners Association and Director of the Anexco Tower, claimed it around 1pm.
“We have no condition. All have been gutted. Ten thousand people used to work here,” he said.

The massive fire, which broke out at Bangabazar market at 6:10am, was brought under control at 12:36pm.
Being informed about the fire, fifty fire service units rushed to the spot.
A joint support team of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy also joined them to control the fire.
The members of police, RAB and Ansar were also present at the spot to maintain the law and order situation.
