Muggers hack university student in Dhaka

The snatchers hacked a female student of a private university in Aftabnagar area of capital Dhaka on Sunday night, leaving her seriously injured.

Injured Apurna Akter Iti is a student of the Pharmacy Department of East West University.

Iti's classmate Tanver Kayes said three/four snatchers stopped her at Block-B around 10:15 pm on her way home from a gym and asked to give them mobile phone, money and bag with her.

A scuffle took place between her and the muggers when she refused to give them these things, he said.

At one stage, they hacked her with sharp weapons and fled the scene, Tanveer added.

Badda Police Station officer in-charge Abul Kalam Azad said the injured student was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.

Police have already started working to identify those involved in the incident, he added.
