A court in Dhaka has rejected the bail petition of Prothom Alo reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams and ordered to send him to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after police had produced him before the court, praying to confine him in prison.

Earlier on Wednesday night, one named advocate Abdul Moshiur Maleque filed the case with Ramna Police Station in the capital.

Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, its Savar staff correspondent Shamsuzzaman Shams, a cameraman and several other unknown people made accused in the lawsuit.

However, another case was filed against Shamsuzzaman with Tejgaon Police Station early Wednesday under the DSA. One named Syed Md Golam Kibria lodged the lawsuit.

The latter case statement said Prothom Alo published a false report on its website and shared it on social media platforms on Independence Day on Sunday (March 26) to confuse people about Independence and Liberation War, question the country's achievements, and damage the image of the government.

Shamsuzzaman Shams wrote the report.
