Flights carrying Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims will begin on May 21, said Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director Shafiul Azim.

The first flight will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka for Jeddah in Saudi Arabia at 3:45 am on the day, he said.

Shafiul Azim said this in a press conference arranged on various current affairs related to Biman on Sunday. 

He also said the national flag carrier will carry 50 percent or 63,599 pilgrims through 160 dedicated flights.

However, this year the government fixed Tk 1.97 lakh as Hajj airfare. 

This year Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, will be held on June 27 (Zilhajj 9) subject to the appearing Moon in the sky.

Now as many as 1,27,198 devotees from Bangladesh - around 15,000 under government management and 1,12,198 under private management - can perform Hajj as per the agreement with Saudi Arabia.
