Five of a family get life in Joypurhat murder

A court in Joypurhat on Thursday sentenced six people, including five members of a family, to life-term imprisonment in a murder case.

The lifers are Ahmed Ali, his wife Meena Begum, their three sons - Altab Hossain, Montaz Ali and Entaz Ali, and Anwar Hossain, residents of Debrail area in Sadar upazila.

Joyopurhat Additional District and Session Judge Nurul Islam handed down the verdict when the accused were present in the dock.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, and in default, they will have to serve two years more in jail.

The court public prosecutor (PP) advocate Nripendra Nath Mondal told Jago News that the lifers attacked the family of Rashid, a resident of Debrail village in the upazila, on April 11 of 2007 over a previous enmity, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, he died in a hospital, Nripendra Nath added.

The victim's son Mizanur Rahman lodged a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection, the PP also said.
