Ex-Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin fined Tk 27.86 lakh
A Dhaka court has fined former Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and BNP’s Standing Committee Member Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar Tk 27,86,364 in a case filed for embezzling money.
Judge Pradeep Kumar Roy of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-7, fined him on March 6.
Jamiruddin’s lawyer Hannan Bhuiyan confirmed the court verdict to Jago News on Monday.
He said he will pay the fine today.
On December 28, 2010, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed five cases separately with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station against four people including the former JS Speaker bringing allegation of money embezzlement.
The other accused in the cases are former BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui and JS Officer Ashraful Islam.
The court in its verdict said Jamiruddin will be acquitted in other four cases if he pays the fine.
