Gulistan blast: 1 more dies, death toll rises to 24
The death toll from the explosion at the seven-storey building in the capital’s Gulistan rose to 24 as one more person died on Saturday morning.
Mirza Azam, 36, son of Shahjahan Mirza of Bhauphal upazila in Patuakhali, breathed his last at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNBPS) around 9:30pm.
Dr S M Ayub Hossain, Resident Surgeon of the SHNBPS, confirmed the death to Jago News.
He said, Azam suffered 80% burn injuries in the explosion and was undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the SHNBPS.
Earlier on Thursday night, one victim named Md Yasin Miah, 25, died while undergoing treatment at the SHNBPS. A dead body was retrieved from the ground floor of the building around 12:30pm on Thursday. Md Musa, 45, died at High Dependency Unit of the institute around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, 18 people died after the explosion occurred on the ground floor of a seven-storey building at Siddique Bazar. Later, firefighters recovered two dead bodies from the spot on Wednesday.
