Three die after drinking toxic alcohol

Three people reportedly died in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah early Friday after drinking toxic alcohol.

The deceased were identified as Zahangir, 35, and Bipul Kumar, 45, residents of Nodipara area and Razib Hossain, 25, of Dhakale Para in the upazila.

Bipul's brother Nirmal Kumar said he was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex in the early hours today after he fell sick and the on-duty doctor there referred him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for better treatment but he died on the way.

Seeking anonymity, a young man of Dhakale Para said all the deceased consumed alcohol from 'Reza Homeo Hall' in Kaliganj bus stand area at night and fell ill.

Quoting family members, Kaliganj Police Station officer in-charge Abdur Rahim Molla said the three people died of alcohol.

Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex's physician Shibly Khatun said according to the record book, a man named Razib Hossain came to the facility with sickness after drinking alcohol and later, he was sent to Jashore as his condition was critical.
