Body formed to probe extortion allegation against DU proctorial team

A committee has been formed to investigate the allegations that the Dhaka University proctorial team extorts around Tk 48 lakh a year by setting up floating illegal shops on the campus. 

Former Assistant Proctor and Geography & Environment Department Professor Dr Md Maksudur Rahman was made convener of the three-member body.

DU public relations office said this in a press release on Thursday.

The committee was asked to submit the probe report within the next two weeks.

It was learned that the proctorial team members realize about Tk 48 lakh extortion from more than 300 floating shops on the campus a year and officials and employees of the proctor office divide the money among themselves.

Contacting the main accused Shamim Hossain, a token man of the proctor office and personal car driver of the proctor, he denied the allegations to Jago News but admitted his relatives have shops on the campus.
