Govt hikes retail power prices by 5% again
In an executive order, the government has increased the prices of power by 5 percent at the retail level again with effect from March 1.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday.
Retail power prices, however, rose by 5 percent for the second time in a month. Earlier on January 30, the prices were hiked by 5 percent.

The government in January amended the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act which powered it to fix, refix and adjust prices of fuel oil, power and gas at the consumer level without BERC, in special cases.
By exercising the power, it adjusts (increasing-decreasing) gas and power prices each month.
