AL-backed panel wins all posts in Dhaka Bar Association polls
The pro-Awami white panel candidates have bagged all the posts, including the president and general secretary posts, in the executive council elections of the Dhaka Bar Association, 2023-24.
The election commission announced the results after counting the votes at 12:20 am on Saturday.
Chief election commissioner of the bar election, Advocate Md Abdullah Abu told BSS that counting of the votes started around 4:30 pm on Friday at the offices of the association.
Mizanur Rahman Mamun and Khandoker Golam Kibria Zubair have been elected as the president and general secretary respectively from the white panel.
Among others, Rumana Zaman Ritu was elected as senior vice-president while Pran Nath vice-president, Bibi Fatema Munni treasurer, Fahim Sharif senior assistant general secretary, Mahbub Hossen Joy assistant general secretary, Rezaul Haque Mia library secretary, Shikha Islam cultural secretary, Golam Kibria Sumon office secretary, SM Mizanur Rahman sports secretary, and Abul Hasnat Jihad social welfare secretary.
The elected members are - Md Kamal Hossain, Gazi Emrul, Aslam Hossain, Yasin Jahan Bhuiyan Nishan, Md Tanzir Hossain Robin, Sharmin Sultana Tumpa, Ismat Ara Sarmin Rimu, Ashikul Islam Murad, Sanjay Kumar Karmakar, Jahir Uddin, and Nasir Uddin.
The election commission announced that 5,028 voters cast their votes on the first day on Wednesday.
However, BNP backed blue panel claimed that 4,023 voters voted in the election. Later on Thursday, the blue panel boycotted the voting polls bringing allegations of irregularities. More 4,215 lawyers cast their votes on the second day after they abstained from participating in the election.
Out of a total of 19,618 voters, 9,243 voted in the election. Forty-six candidates from the two panels contested in the polls against 23 posts.
