60-member Bangladesh rescue team returns from Turkey
The 60-member Bangladesh team returned home on Tuesday night after conducting rescue operations in the earthquake ravaged Turkey.
An Air Force aircraft C-130 carrying the team landed at Air Force Base Bangabandhu in the capital’s Kurmitola at 8pm.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Tajul Islam, Director (operations and maintenance) of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate, welcomed them.
The team included 24 members from the Bangladesh Army, 10 medical professionals, 12 fire service personnel and 14 Air Force crews.
Md Shahjahan Shikder, Acting Officer (Media Cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
A press conference will be held in this regard on Wednesday. Brig. Gen. Md Main Uddin, Director General of the Fire Service will brief the media.
Earlier on February 8, the 60-member team led by Bangladesh Army left Dhaka for Turkey to conduct search and rescue operations in the aftermath of horrific earthquake.
The Turkish government requested the Bangladesh government to help in the rescue work after the devastating natural disaster that has claimed 42,310 lives till now. Responding to the call, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the departments concerned to send a collaborative support team led by the Bangladesh Armed Forces to Turkey.
