19 people, 2 institutions to get Ekushey Padak

The government has nominated 19 distinguished people and two institutions for Ekushey Padak, the country's second highest civilian award, this year in recognition of their contributions to different fields.

The Cultural Affairs Ministry said this in a handout on Sunday.

Khaleda Manzoor-e-Khuda, freedom fighter AKM Shamsul Haque (posthumous) and Haji Md Mojibur Rahman were nominated for their contributions to Language Movement.

Masud Ali Khan and Shimul Yusuf were selected for their roles in acting, Monoronjan Ghoshal and Gazi Abdul Hakim and Fazal-e-Khoda (posthumous) were selected for music, Jayanta Chattopadhyay was chosen for recitation and Nawazish Ali Khan and Kanak Chapa Chakma for arts.

Professor Dr Mazharul Islam (posthumous) will receive the award for his role in education and National Museum was also picked in the category.

Bidyanondo Foundation, a non-profit organization, and Md Saidul Haque were nominated for social work.

Advocate Manzurul Islam (posthumous) and Akter Uddin Mia (posthumous) were chosen for politics while Momtaz Uddin (posthumous) for Liberation War, Md Shah Alamgir (posthumous) for journalism, Dr Md Abdul Majid for research and Dr Moniruzzaman for language and literature.
