Three get death, 1 life in UP member murder

A court in Kishoreganj has sentenced three people to death and another to life-term imprisonment in the murder case of a former union parishad member.

The condemned convicts are Forkan Bhuiyan, Shahed Bhuiyan and Ango Bhuiyan while the lifer is Mostafa Bhuiyan.

Judge of Additional District and Session Judge Court Md Zannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque pronounced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. 

The court also fined the lifer, Mostafa, Tk 1 lakh, and in default, he will have to serve two months more in jail.

The court public prosecutor (PP) Abu Sayeed Imam confirmed the matter.

The case statement said the accused hacked former local UP member Rafiqul Islam alias Ratan on his way home from Kargaon Bhattabazar in Katiadi upazila on August 29, 2013, over previous enmity, leaving him seriously injured.

On September 5 of the same year, he succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

His cousin Anar Bhuiyan filed a case with Katiadi Police Station making six people accused.
