Trial starts in ULAB student's murder after rape
A court in Dhaka has framed charges against six accused in the case over the murder of a student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh after rape.
The accused are Farzana Zaman Neha alias DJ Neha, Murtaza Rayhan Chowdhury, Mst Nuhat Alam Tafseer, Shafayet Jamil, Md Riaz Uddin and Nurul Amin.
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-6 in Dhaka Al Mamun indicted them on January 17, the court bench assistant Saiful Islam confirmed on Thursday.
Earlier on January 31, 2021, the victim's father lodged the case with Mohammadpur Police Station, accusing four people of killing his daughter after rape. An unidentified person was also made accused in the lawsuit.
After completion of the probe, investigation officer SI Md Sazedul Haque pressed charges against six people and sought acquittal for accused Arafat Hossain as he died.

The case statement said Rayhan took the private university student to his friend Arafat's home from Mirpur on January 28, and from there the trio went to a restaurant in Uttara area where Neha and a peer of hers were waiting for them. The accused forcefully made the girl drink excessive liquor.
Then Rayhan took her to Nuhat's home in Mohammadpur area on the pretext of reaching her the home of a friend of hers after she fell sick at one stage of drinking alcohol. He raped her there. During the act, his friends were present there.
After rape, she again fell sick and started vomiting. She was first taken to Ibn Sina Hospital and later admitted to Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital where she died, according to the case statement.
