Outlawed Hizbut Tahrir’s top militant arrested in Jatrabari

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a top fugitive convict of banned militant outfit Hizbut Tahrir (HT) conducting a drive in the capital's Jatrabari area, reports BSS.

A special team of RAB-2 raided Jatrabari area responding to a secret information on Saturday night and arrested top militant Touhidur Rahman alias Touhid (31), a fugitive for over 11 years, RAB-2's Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Fazlul Haque said.

Touhid was a member of the Dawati and finance department of the militant group, Haque told a press meet on Sunday. 

"Around 11 years ago, the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal sentenced him to two years of imprisonment and issued an arrest warrant against him in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the capital's Hazaribagh police station," he said.

Touhid had been conducting anti-government and anti-state activities holding conspiratorial meetings and distributing Hizbut Tahrir leaflets and posters among youngsters including Madrasa and school students, the official added.

He was working to establish caliphate instead of democracy engaging people in militancy taking camouflage.

The RAB official said necessary legal action will be taken against him soon.
