HC asks to remove B'baria lawyers' misconduct video from social media
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove videos of some Brahmanbaria lawyers' misbehavior with a judge inside a courtroom and their chanting of indecent slogans, from social networking sites.
The court also set February 14 for holding a further hearing in this regard.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order, allowing a time plea filed by the three accused lawyers.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and its Secretary Md Abdun Nur Dulal, senior advocates Mohammad Sayeed Ahmed Raja and Shah Manjurul Haque appeared for the accused lawyers, while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin stood for the state.
The High Court on January 5, summoned three lawyers for chanting indecent slogans, hampering trial process and misbehaving with Judge Mohammad Faruk of Brahmanbaria Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1.
The three accused are- Brahmanbaria Bar Association President Adv Md Tanvir Ahmed Bhuiyan, secretary (admin) Adv Md Akkas Ali, and Adv Zubayer Islam. The court had asked them to appear before it today and submit their explanations.
Following that order, the three accused appeared before the court today.
After today's hearing Attorney General AM Amin Uddin held a press briefing at his office, where he said the incident that took place in Brahmanbaria was totally unexpected.
"I will talk to all the concerned parties and would take initiative to resolve the matter with the help of Supreme Court Bar Association President. We, the lawyers, exist because of the court, so we have to show respect towards the court. Both the bar and bench have to be sensitive and caring. The court too has to work by making the lawyers to understand. The incident of Brahmanbaria gives wrong message and we have to ensure that justice-seekers don't suffer because of this," the attorney general said.
