Islamic preacher Mufti Kazi Ibrahim on Monday pleaded guilty and sought mercy from the court in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, reports BSS.

Today was fixed for charge hearing against him.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AKM Zulfikar Hayat passed an order accepting his clemency plea and sentenced him to the time he had served in prison since his arrest (1 year, 3 months and 19 days) as he pleaded guilty.

On September 28, 2021, Detective Branch (DB) of police in an overnight raid detained Mufti Kazi Ibrahim from his Mohammadpur residence in the capital.

Additional Deputy-Commissioner (media) Iftekharul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told BSS that he was taken to the DB headquarters for interrogation for some of his controversial recent speech on social media, which sparked debate countrywide.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman granted two-day remand for Mufti Ibrahim as he was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on September 29.

He was sent to jail on October 2 of the same year.
