Sources of Gulshan attack arms identified: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque on Monday said police has able to find out the sources of arms which were used in city’s Gulshan attacks.

Police has able to find out the arms dealers and two masterminds of Gulshan, the Police Boss said this in a program at Mirpur Staff College in the capital in the morning.

Masterminds of the Gulshan attack will be arrested anytime, he said.

Chief of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), CID were present at the program.

Earlier, on first day of July, Dhaka witnessed one of the worst terror attacks in its history as gunmen equipped with heavy arms and grenade stormed into Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale eatery on Road 79 of Gulshan and took the diners as hostage. Later they killed 22 people including two police officers after a 12 hour long hostage situation.

They killed nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Bangladeshi-American and one Indian.

Thirteen hostages were rescued while six of the gunmen, who attacked the upscale eatery, were killed in a 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ on July 2.
