Father, son killed in Rangamati explosion

A man and his minor son were killed and his wife was injured in an explosion in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati on Sunday evening.

The deceased were Ismail Mia, 45, and his son Md Rifat, 7, while injured Sakhina Begum, 35, is his wife.

The incident took place in Badsha Majhir Tila area of 4 No. Kaptai union.

Additional police superintendent (Kaptai sadar circle) Rawshan Ara Rob said they learned that dead Ismail, a sailor by profession, brought some iron-like substances in a sack to sell and the explosion occurred there.

After reaching the spot, they found some clips of explosive substances, he added.

He also said they can say details after an investigation by the fire service and their own team.

Kaptai upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Muntasir Zahan confirmed two deaths in the blast.

However, injured Sakhina was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
