Gaibandha-5 by-polls were peaceful: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said the by-elections to Gaibandha-5 constituency were held in a peaceful and disciplined manner.

"There was a good atmosphere at the beginning of voting and the ending was also beautiful. Overall, the voting was held peacefully and in a disciplined way," he said at Nirbachan Bhaban on Wednesday.

The CEC also said the electronic voting machine (EVMs) worked properly and no irregularities were reported.

However, the voting in the by-election, which was suspended in October last year due to irregularities, was held from 8:30 pm to 4:30 pm without a break.
