Voting in Gaibandha-5 by-polls ends
Voting in the by-election to the Gaibandha-5 constituency, which was suspended in October last year due to irregularities, was held on Wednesday without any violence.
The polling started at 8:30am through electronic voting machines (EVMs) and continued till 4:30pm.
The voters cast their votes at 145 centers under 17 unions in Fhulchari and Saghata upazilas.
Three candidates are participating in the polls.
The candidates are: Zahangir Alam (Bikolpa Dhara), Mahmud Hasan Ripon (Awami League) and Golam Shaheed Ranju (Jatiya Party).
On October 12 last year, the Election Commission suspended the by-election citing irregularities on election day and later the commission fixed January 4 for holding the polls.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on July 23 last year.
