Expatriate hacked dead over land dispute
A young man was hacked to death in Naria upazila of Shariatpur district over a land dispute.
Deceased Danesh Sarder, 35, was the son of Sona Mia Sarder, a resident of Thakurkandi area under Rajnagar union in the upazila. He was in Malaysia for 10 years and came home three months ago.
Police and locals said Sona Mia Sarder has long been at loggerheads with Joynal Moral of Thakurkandi area over a piece of land.
In continuation of this, Joynal Moral, Shahin Moral and Jony Moral hacked Danesh with sharp weapons in front of the home of Lokman Akon, a resident of the same area, on Monday evening, leaving him injured.
Later, he was rushed to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and from there, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but he died on the way.
Danesh's sister Sathi Akter said, "Some 15/20 people, including Joynal Moral, Shahin Moral and Jony Moral, killed my brother and we demand exemplary punishment for this murder."
The accused, however, could not be reached for comment as they fled locking their house doors.
Naria Police Station officer in-charge Md Hafizur Rahman said they primarily learned that the killing might have been over previous enmity and land dispute.
Mentioning that none was detained yet in this connection, he said they will file a case if the victim's family complain.
