Biswajit murder: Fugitive convict arrested after 10 years
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, in the case filed over the murder of Biswajit Das 10 years ago.
Meer Md Nure Alam alias Limon, 35, son of Meer M Nurul Islam, of Pirgacha upazila in Rangpur, was arrested from Humayun road area in the capital’s Mohammadpur on Monday morning.
RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Fazlul Haque confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Biswajit, a tailor-shop worker, was chopped to death in broad-daylight near Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka on December 9, 2012, during the blockade program called by BNP-led alliance.
On December 18, 2013, a Speedy Trial Tribunal awarded death penalty to eight people and 13 others to life- term imprisonment for killing Biswajit Das.
On August 6, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentences of two -- Rafiqul Islam Shakil and Rajon Talukder, commuted death sentences of four to life imprisonment and acquitted four from the charges.
Limon had been on the run since his conviction in Biswajit Das murder case in 2012.
