The death of BUET student Fardin Nur Parash was apparently a suicide, said the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB (Motijheel Division) Shahidur Rahman Ripon said this to Jago News on Wednesday afternoon.

He said, "It appears to be a suicide for now. We've talked to the doctor conducting autopsy and seen the post-mortem report. Overall, it appears to be a suicide."

But the ADC declined to say anything immediately about why the BUET student might have committed suicide.

The DB made the claim at a time when the Rapid Action Battalion said it found some important information in the death of Fardin and these will be revealed in detail later.

"Some important information was found and there was progress over the death of BUET student Fardin Nur Parash. Details will be revealed in this regard later," RAB legal and media wing Director Khandaker Al Moin told Jago News this afternoon.

Fardin Nur Parash, 24, a third-year student of the Civil Engineering department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, went missing on November 5.

On the same day, his father Kazi Nuruddin Rana, a resident of Noyamati area in Fatulla of Narayanganj, filed a general diary with Rampura Station in Dhaka about his missing.

On November 7, naval police recovered his body from Shitalakhya river in Narayanganj.

Later, Kazi Nuruddin lodged a case against Bushra and some unnamed people with the same police station accusing them of killing Fardin and covering up his body.
