Car drags, kills woman: Case filed against DU ex-teacher
A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday night over the death of a woman, who was killed after a private car dragged her from the Central Jame Mosque of the Dhaka University (DU) to Nilkhet intersection.
The victim’s brother Zakir Hossain filed the case against former Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations at DU Azhar Zafar Shah who was the driver of the car.
Kamrun Nahar, Sub Inspector of the police station, confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.
He said, the case was filed under the Road Transport Act. The accused Azhar is currently undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
On Friday, Rubina Akter, 40, fell down from a motorcycle after being hit by the car at DU central mosque area at 3pm. Later, she got stuck under the car. But, instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver tried to flee away, speeding up the car.
The university students chased the car down at Nilkhet intersection and beat up the driver mercilessly. Later, the injured woman and the driver were taken to DMCH where she died while undergoing treatment around 5pm.
