Teacher held on student molestation charge

Police arrested a school teacher in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on Thursday night on a charge of molesting his student, a seventh grader.

Arrested Md Shakhawat Hossain is the headmaster of Sharifabad High School in the upazila.

Bhanga Police Station officer in-charge Ziarul Islam said they apprehended Shakhawat after the student had complained to the police and the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) that he sexually assaulted her.

But the accused denied the accusation, saying it false and baseless.

After the news spread, the students of the school staged a demonstration in front of it on Thursday afternoon, demanding the removal of the headmaster.
