Escape of 2 militants: 10 accused on fresh 5-day remand
A Dhaka court has granted a fresh five-day remand for ten accused in a case filed over snatching away two death row convict militants from the court premises in Old Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order on Thursday.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case and the Inspector of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad produced them before the court after completion of a ten-day remand.
The remanded accused are Shahin Alam alias Kamal, Shah Alam alias Salauddin, BM Mojibur Rahman, Sumon Hossain Patwary, Arafat Rahman, Khairul Islam alias Sifat, Mozammel Hossain, Sheikh Abdullah, A Sabur and Rashidunnabi. They all are the members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam.
On November 20, two members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched away from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises.
The escaped convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel from Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim from Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.
After the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Chief Harun-Or-Rashid told Jago News four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched away the two death-row convicts after spraying something in the eyes of policemen.
Later, the court Inspector Julhas filed a case against 20 named people and 7-8 unidentified people with Kotwali Police Station in the capital in this connection.
