20 sued over snatching away death-row convicts

A case has been filed against 20 people over the snatching away of two death-row convicts from police custody in capital Dhaka.

The case was lodged with Kotwali Police Station in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruque said on Sunday evening.

Earlier around 12 noon, two members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched away from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises. 

The condemned convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel from Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim from Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.   

After the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Chief Harun-Or-Rashid told Jago News four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched away the two death-row convicts after spraying something on the eyes of policemen.
