2 death-row convict militants snatched from police custody
Two death-row convict militants of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were snatched from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court area around 12pm on Sunday.
The two death-row convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel of Aditmari in Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim of Chhatak in Sunamganj.
Harun-Or-Rashid, Chief of Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Sunday.
He said, four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched the two death-row convicts after spraying into the eyes of police members. The two militants were sentenced to death in a case filed over the murder of Jagriti Publication’s publisher Foysal Arefin Dipon.
Earlier, the two death-row convicts were produced before Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
On February 10, 2021, eight people including suspended army major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia were sentenced to death in Dipon murder case.
On October 31, 2015, Dipon was hacked dead by the miscreants at Jagriti Publication Office at Aziz Super Market in the capital’s Shahbagh. Later, his wife filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station.
