Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s Bangladesh visit has been cancelled.

A source from Bangladesh Foreign Ministry confirmed the matter to Jago News on Sunday.

Sergei Lavrov was scheduled to visit Dhaka on November 23 to attend a minister level meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

Instead of Lavrov, Russian ambassador to Bangladesh, Aleksandr Mantytsky, will represent his country in the IORA meeting.

Russia is a dialogue partner of the IORA while Bangladesh is the current chair.

Ahead of Lavrov’s visit to Dhaka, preparations were made for a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
