A case has been filed against Bangladeshi expatriate writer and online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) lodged the case with Ramna Police Station in capital Dhaka on October 15.

Two other people - Mofizur Rahman and Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari - were also named in the lawsuit.

Of them, the former is in jail after being arrested while the latter is on the run.

CTTC's city intelligence analysis unit deputy commissioner (DC) Mishuk Chakma confirmed the case filing to Jago News on Thursday night.

According to the case statement, a Facebook post by Pinaki containing distorted information about the members of the Bangladesh Police drew the attention of CTTC on October 14.

Police arrested the above-mentioned Mofizur from his home at Pallabi in the capital on October 15 over the post and also seized two mobile handsets from his possession.

The statement said he contacted various people, including Pinaki Bhattacharya and aforesaid Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari via Messenger using his Facebook fake IDs.

Mofizur sent distorted information and photos of a police drive in Mirpur area to the duo and others that circulated on social media.

Likewise, they mispresented the law enforcement agencies on social media platforms which may cause deterioration of the law and order situation in the country, the case statement also said.

Staying abroad, Pinaki Bhattacharya has been spreading misleading information about the government, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Bangabandhu's family, as per the statement.
