Chinese, 5 others get jail terms for embezzling money
A Dhaka court has sentenced six people including a Chinese to different jail terms in a case filed for embezzling money.
Judge Iqbal Hossain of Fifth Special Judge Court of Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday.
The court sentenced the Xinfa Niters Limited Chairman China citizen Yang Wang Chung and its director Khasru Al Rahman to 13 years in jail.
Director Monsorul Haque and Md Golam Mostofa were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment each and the then Senior Vice President (Export) of National Bank’s Dilkusha branch Abdul Wadud Khan and Executive Vice President Shahabuddin Chowdhury got six years in jail each in the case.
On January 17, 2017, Jahangir Hossain, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Motijheel Police Station.
On June 24, 2018, the ACC official submitted a charge-sheet against six of them to the court.
On September 18, 2019, the court framed charges against them.
