Jamaat Ameer's son Dr Rafat arrested
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman's son Dr Rafat Chowdhury has been arrested for his alleged involvement in militancy.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) apprehended him from Sylhet district on Wednesday afternoon.
CTTC Chief Additional Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to Jago News tonight.
He said three members of Ansar Al Islam - Sejadul Islam Sahab Tanim alias Isa alias Arafat alias Anwar alias Anbir, 24, Md Jahid Hasan Bhuiyan, 21, and Syed Riaz Ahmed, 22 - were arrested in a drive conducted in Sayedabad area of capital Dhaka on November 1.
In interrogation, they told police that they all joined Ansar Al Islam through Dr Rafat, the Sylhet region chief coordinator of the banned militant outfit, he said.
The trio also gave their statement in court on November 6 under Section 164 where they disclosed the names of Jamaat Ameer's son and other associates, Asaduzzaman said.
In continuation of this, Dr Rafat was arrested from Sylhet, the official added.
The CTTC chief also said Dr Rafat has links with Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO).
